Valentines Day

So it has been a while, I know. Life has been very hectic but I felt it only fit to restart this blog on the Eve of Valentines Day. Since Jane is the Queen of all Romance. O.K I have a little bit of a confession...I havn't been reading Mansfield Park. Before I started reading Mansfield Park I was reading another book which I lost so I started Mansfield. Well, the other day I found it! So I felt it was only me duty as a reader to finish what I had started. The book is North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. It is really good! I highly recommend it. It is very pride and prejudice and it was written in 1860. It is about a girl named Margaret Hale, she is around my age. Her father a minister decides that he can no longer work for the church so they leave the countryside and go to Northern England to a mill town. There she meets John Thornton, a mill owner who has worked hard for his station. Of course, they meet and dont like each other and then they fall for each other. Again very pride and prejudice. The writing is really good and their are some social issues as well. Margaret befriends a young girl named Bessy who is deathly ill and Margaret becomes involved in social concerns.
"'Oh mamma, mamma! How am I to dress up in my finery, and go off and away to smart parties, after the sorrow I have seen to-day?' exclaimed Margaret"
I think it is great that this book has a strong ,independent, female and was written in a time when females were not considered strong and independent. Also, it was made into a mini-series for BBC. I looked at the reviews on IMDB and it got a 9/10. So if you just want to watch the miniseries I bet it will be fantastic as well. I really hope to finish this soon so that I can get back to Mansfield Park. Sorry for the detour!
Happy Reading
